Wisbech Town 6,

Desborough Town 1

Wisbech Town FC were the day’s biggest winners in the UCL after thrashing visiting Desborough in the UCL Premier on Saturday.

Billy Smith (8 minutes) and Stuart Cobb (42) got the goals before half-time for the Fenmen.

Adam Millson (54), Neal Spafford (63), Jon Fairweather (83) and Josh Ford (87) added the second half goals. Byrne (50) bagged a consolation for Desborough.

Boss Dick Creasey’s target of three wins over a spell of eight days has been met, and he said: “The pleasing thing is as each game has gone on through the week, we’ve got better.

“Our confidence has obviously gone up. On Saturday it could have been 12. We absolutely bombarded their goalmouth and hit the woodwork three or four times.

“It’s also pleasing how we’ve knocked the ball about.”

The result puts Wisbech up to seventh in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier table.

The Fenmen have no fixture next Saturday and Creasey has given the squad the weekend off.

He said: “We wanted to keep the momentum going and the little break has come at the wrong time for us,but it’s a chance to recharge the batteries.

“We’ve got a glut of fixtures against teams around the top, and we want to be up there with them.”

New signing Luke Wilson made his debut when coming on for Nathan Horne, who had a slight groin strain.

The next game is at home to Yaxley on October 11.
