Solid start in bid for Division One return

Wisbech Lawn Tennis Club have been busy with several league matches.

In the West Norfolk Mixed Division Two, the team of Rhys Thomas, Angela Newling, Gary Fitzjohn and Rachel Collins took on KES ‘C’ at home. The hosts adapted to the windy conditions easier than the opposition and secured a 8-0 victory. They have made a good start this season in their bid to return to Division One.

Previous results: KES ‘B’ away, James Newton, Margaret Pendall, Fitzjohn and Collins 4-4, Dersingham ‘B’ away, Newton, Pendall, Fitzjohn and Collins 6-2 win, KES ‘C’ away, Fitzjohn, Pendall, Jack Briggs, and Newling 6-2 win, Dersingham ‘B’ home, Newton, Pendall, Fitzjohn and Collins 7-1 win.

The Mens ‘B’ (Jack Briggs, Roger Frusher, Dave Davies and Shayen Seshadri) had a thrilling 5-3 win, with Briggs and Frusher dominating against Terrington.

In the Hunts and Peterborough League the Mixed ‘A’ had their first home fixture of the season against Stamford and won 5-3. Briggs and Sheila Hennesey battled back in each of their matches after losing the first set to draw each match 1-1. The other pair of Fitzjohn and Pendall hit good form and after losing the first match, battled back to win the next three.
