LONG Sutton ended a disappointing run of four games by beating FC Inter 5-2 in the Peterborough League Division One on Saturday.

Matt Cawthorne led the way with a hat-trick and other goals came from Jake Clitheroe and Sam Cooper.

The Magpies did not start very well and went a goal down after 20 minutes but this seemed to spring the home side into action and Cawthorne equalised before the break.

Long Sutton were always in control in the second half building up a 3-1 lead and substitute Cooper wrapped up the scoring with his first goal for the first team.

Manager Paul Preston said: “It was a pleasing result.

“We did not start well but as soon as they scored we started to play and produced some good football.”

Leverington’s run without a league win in the Premier Division now stretches to 12 games after a 3-0 defeat at Deeping Sports.

They remain fourth from bottom, one place above neighbouring Parson Drove who have won just once in their last 10 games and, after a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Crowland, are just one point above the relegation places.

In Division Two Guyhirn remain in the bottom two after a 2-1 defeat against Ryhall United. Aaron Percel scored their goal.

Leverington Reserves scored very early on through Steven Harley but conceded a penalty with 15 minutes to gain a point in a 1-1 draw against Netherton A in Combination Two.
