Lilies boss Jock Bedford said: “It’s buzzing. The atmosphere has been good.

“You have to be really pleased to win your first game 3-0. We have a young and inexperienced team but they don’t lack ability.

“The main thing is they are all good friends and are good with each other. You’re halfway there, then – it makes your job easier.

“Our team were superb. Great Paxton were a good side last year. I don’t know if it was the case of they were poor or we were good.

“You can only play what’s in front of you. We made them look poor, so full credit to our players.”

He added: “The club’s aim is to remain in this division, and we need to run three senior teams and an U18’s.

“My manager’s aim is you’d like to aim for promotion. Every team should be aiming for that.”

Vice-captain Ben Collett took the skipper’s armband as regular captain Simon Howard was harvesting.

Next in Senior A is tonight’s home game with Hundon. On Saturday Chatteris entertain Comberton United.
