Town let down on new midfield signing hope

WISBECH Town manager Steve Appleby’s efforts to bring in a new midfield player for next season have met with a setback.

He was looking for a flair player to boost his squad but admitted: “The player I had in mind has decided to stay with his club so we will have to see how things go. But I am very happy with the squad I have at present and the three new players.”

Appleby would not reveal the name of the player, but it is believed he was with a club playing at a higher level than Wisbech.

Stacy Cartwright has turned down an offer to join UCL side Deeping Rangers. He said: “I am not leaving Wisbech for any team. I am loving it there and enjoy every game I play.”

Wisbech have been fined £50 by the Cambs Football Association for failing to ensure the supporters conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the final game of the season against Brantham Athletic.

The offence is a result of Wisbech fans’ comments to the referee at the end of the game and the club have also been severely warned as to their future conduct. Wisbech had Anthony Reeve and Chris Bacon sent off.

Wisbech’s BKD Cup game against March Town scheduled for July 14 has now been put back to July 21 (3pm) at the GER.

Local butchers Russells have stepped in quickly to sponsor Fenmen striker Chris Bacon for next season. A real streaky move!
