Vets’ semi hopes alive

Wisbech Town Vets 2,

Wisbech St Mary Vets 1

Town Vets gave themselves a slim chance of reaching the Peterborough Vets League semi-final by beating local rivals St Mary Vets.

Town started well and it was John Collins’ lob that gave them the lead with Gerry Nelson doubling the lead with another great lob. Town then came under pressure but held on to half-time.

The second half saw St Mary push and an outstanding save from John Knight kept St Mary at bay. Town then had two great changes with Kevin Leggett hitting the post but with five minutes from time Brendan Bird scored to give St Mary hope.

Outstanding performances from Carl Papworth and Nigel Jackson in midfield but also great credit to George Marston, solid in Town’s defence. Town now must beat Deeping Rangers and Peterborough Northern Star to get into the semi-final.
