Victory has given Hares high hopes

MARCH Town’s ambitions this season took a big upturn on Saturday when they beat Ridgeons Division One leaders Thetford 2-0 at the GER.

Manager Brett Whaley had set a target of a top five finish but a league title or certainly promotion look well within the Hares’ grasp now.

Thetford had a winning run of 14 league games going back to last season before March ended that run on Saturday and they are now in a very good position themselves in third spot at the halfway stage to the season.

Whaley said: “We have been really good defensively on occasions this season and have had good days going forward too, but on Saturday we came up with a very good all round performance.

“That’s four wins in a row now and it has put us in an excellent position, but we really need to continue that run if we are going to have a real chance of promotion.”

“It is just a pity we do not have a game this Saturday and must wait until Boxing Day. When you are having a good run you just cannot wait to play the next game.

“But having said that we picked up a few knocks and that will give the players a bit of time to get over them.”

“Just at the moment we have a strong squad available and it is a big help when you call upon players off the bench as we did on Saturday but it also comes with some headaches as everyone wants to start when you are playing well.”

March’s next game is against Downham on Boxing Day at home.
