WISBECH St Mary’s annual football tournament was once again a resounding success with nearly 200 teams competing over the weekend.
On Saturday there were 110 teams with teams from under seven competing and then on Sunday 80 teams took part.
Club secretary Martin Holmes said: “We were lucky with the weather and had big crowds to watch on both days for another successful tournament. There was an excellent standard of performance on both days especially from the ladies section with 21 teams competing.”
The host club also enjoyed some success on the pitches too with the club’s under 13 boys purple team beating East Lynn 2-1 in the final and the under 14 team took their section with a 1-0 win against Ramsey.
Wisbech St Mary under 10 boys team lost 2-1 to Thorpe Wood in the final, while the girls under 11 side lost 2-1 to March side Estover Park in the decider.
Another local team to do well was Hungate under 16 boys who reached the final losing to Ramsey
Wisbech St Mary girls under 17 lost out in the semi-finals to Norfolk side Waveney.
