Wisbech are the stars

Wisbech Town 4, Peterborough Northern Star 0

WISBECH Town reeled off a fifth successive preseason win in good style at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Tuesday night against a side that included former Fenmen Sam Murphy, Wayne Morris, Denny Escorcio and Stuart Ablett.

Steve Appleby decided on a 3-5-2 formation and wingback Ollie Gale opened the scoring after just five minutes when the visitors failed to clear Dubi Ogbonna’s ball into the area and eight minutes later Ogbonna supplied an inch perfect cross for Callum Reed to head home the second goal.

Ogbonna was involved again for the third goal when producing a well-struck shot from 22 yards out into the roof of the net on 18 minutes and was undoubtedly the star of the first half.

Murphy should have scored against his old team three minutes from the break, but shot too high from six yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Three minutes into the second half it was 4-0 when Callum Reed’s shot from 18 yards out sneaked under the goalkeeper’s body.

Wisbech made six changes in the second half and their performance went a little flat but it was already job done with 21 goals now and just two conceded.

Paul Cousins and Scott Johnson missed the game with injuries, but Johnson will play against Holbeach at home tomorrow night and Cousins, who has a bruised bone in his foot, is hopeful of playing against Sileby Rangers on Saturday.
