Wisbech board show faith with cash

WISBECH Town’s board have put their money down on the team having a successful season.

Steve Appleby has had his budget increased by around 10 per cent and that has helped him recruit a stronger squad of 17 for the coming campaign.

Chairman Barry Carter said: “We have made more funds available for Steve but we are still working within our financial guidelines.

“We have no debts at present and own our own ground. The social club is working well and as long we get the support from the fans there should not be a problem.”

Carter, who has been involved with the club for 11 years, is happy with the progress the club has made in the past two seasons.

He said: “Everything is in place for the standard we play at present and it would only take a bit more seating and filling in the barriers to take us to the next level.”

Carter, who has witnessed the friendlies this season, has also been impressed with what he has seen on the pitch. “We have got a good settled squad over the last two seasons with some good additions and it promises to be an exciting season for us but we cannot count our chickens before they hatch.”

Obviously a chairman is always looking at the finances so it is no surprise that Carter is hoping for good runs in the FA Cup and FA Vase as well as the Thurlow Nunn League.

“I thought we were unlucky in the FA Vase not to have beaten Dunston last season in the last 16 and they went on to win it. So hopefully we can have good runs in the two competitions this year,” he said.
