Kettering Tn 3, Wisbech Town 0
THERE was no way back for Wisbech on Tuesday of last week in their FA Cup with Budweiser 1st Qualifying Round replay after the Fenmen went 2-0 down at half-time.
Boss Steve Appleby said: “For the first 25 minutes we were shading it and had a couple of chances. Dubi (Ogbonna) had one cleared off the line by a defender. If we had scored we could have gone on and won the game.
“I felt as soon as Kettering got a goal they went up another level and the turning point was the penalty when they went 2-0 up.
“For the penalty one of their lads stooped down to head the ball and one of our lads raised his foot. Our lads said he bluffed the ref and there was no contact, they said there was. I wasn’t close enough to see.
“It’s one of those where if you’re the manager and you get it, you’re happy – but if it’s against you, you’re not happy.
“Give the lads a bit of credit: at half-time we had a few words and in the second half we had a bit of a go. Kettering were better on the night but the boys gave everything over the 180 minutes.”
