Wisbech Town boss Brett Whaley praised his side’s “solid performance” after their weekend victory over Rothwell Corinthians as an FA Vase warm-up.
The 2-0 success saw the Fenmen record back-to-back clean sheets in the league for the first time this season.
Whaley (pictured) said: “It was a good win last week against a good side but today we looked solid for the first time in a while.
“That’s now two performances on the bounce where teams haven’t dictated against us and opened us up easily.
“That is the first win here since the opening day of the season. We know that’s not good enough, but it needed to come and we need to back that up now.”
Goals from Rob Hughes and Billy Smith ensured all three United Counties League points were secured at the Elgood’s Stadium for only the second time this season.
Prior to the game Wisbech announced new signings in Ross Watson, Michael Frew and Adam Millson. All three put pen-to-paper from Spalding United, with both Watson and Frew having played at King’s Lynn.
On the new arrivals, Whaley said: “All three are big signings for the club and all have experience of playing higher.
“They will give us energy, workrate and organisation, without reducing the quality that we’re looking for.
“Three areas I felt that we needed to add, and I feel these three are the perfect players for those roles.”
Fans’ favourite Millson who left the club in the summer, said: “I’m very happy to be back as I haven’t been enjoying my football since the start of the season.
“I’ve come back with a smile on my face. I really enjoyed it on Saturday and it was great to get three points as well.
“It felt good. I think first half we were well on top, it was only 1-0 but it could have easily been more.
“The second half was a bit scrappy but we got the second goal to kill the game off.”
Defender Ellis Humble has left the club following Friday’s triple arrival.
Last night the Fenmen were due to entertain in-form Peterborough Northern Star before turning their attentions to the FA Vase at home to Alvechurch on Saturday.
Alvechurch are third in the Midland League Premier Division, and on Saturday they thumped Continental Star 8-0. The winners of Saturday’s First Round Proper tie will receive £900 and a place in Monday’s draw.
