Wisbech Town boss Steve Appleby is grateful for the current pre-season friendlies which have given him a chance to look at some youth players.
Youngster Shane Green scored the final goal in the 5-1 over Whittlesey for the Fenmen on Friday.
Appleby said: “Shane has played for the under 18s. We asked him down. He is with Wisbech St Mary and is weighing up his options.
“We had a look at four U18s. Some people have said about the games that have been organised. But the idea is A: to keep it local – we like to play local teams; and B: there is a chance to look at the young lads, so it was very worthwhile.”
“One or two players have now got tight hamstrings or calves with the ground being hard.
“I’ve been chopping and changing so I don’t leave anyone out. From now on there will be more of a full, normal squad.”
Chris Bacon is off to Australia at the start of the season but continues to train with the Fenmen.
Appleby added: “Chris asked to train with us to get fit.
“I’m happy to do that, and Chris is happy to sign for us if anything goes wrong and he can’t go.”
