WISBECH TOWN are through to the Jaidka Cup final after proving a cut above their semi-final rivals Yaxley last Wednesday night.
Once again former county captain Gary Freear proved the mainstay of the success with a glittering 52 runs off 27 balls to follow up his 80 not out in the quarter finals.
Yaxley batted first and got off to a flying start courtesy of the Wisbech bowlers and some abject fielding as the home side reached 40 runs without loss off the first three overs.
The introduction of the pacy James Williams somewhat steadied the tide and Yaxley really never built on the early success throwing away crucial wickets by trying to hit the ball out of the ground. In the end they reached 144 for nine off their 20 overs but extras contributed 44 in total.
Wisbech were 11 for no wicket off their first three overs but then Freear cut loose hitting a huge six and three fours and single for 19 off the fourth over and Wisbech never looked in doubt.
Even when the colossus Freear went for 52, Williams 37 and David Wood 26 not out, took on the mantle as Wisbech cruised to victory with 20 balls to spare.
