WISBECH Town’s top batsman Gary Freear showed he is in sparkling form for the new season with an impressive innings of 135 in the opening Rutland League win against Kings Keys on Sunday.
Freear was ably supported by Henry Rosier 61 and James Williams 21 not out as Wisbech went on to reach 262 for four in the 45 overs. Sam Albutt scored 24.
Kings Keys were bowled out for 126 with Jack Hastings taking two for 22 in a very good opening spell and Ben Allsop and David Wood claimed three wickets each.
On Saturday Wisbech open their Cambs Premier Division campaign with a game against newcomers St Ives.
Skipper James Williams will play on despite his shoulder injury and said: “St Ives have just been promoted but by all accounts are a useful side with a couple of former Godmanchester players in their ranks.
“We will be looking for a good start and it is good that some of the players are already in good form. Zak Brown and Brad Apted will be missing but otherwise we should be at full strength.”
