March left home-sick

Home-sick March Town lost in a rain-affected match to reigning Tucker League champions Foxton by eight wickets on Saturday after another low total.

The rain rule came into play after the start was delayed by an hour to 2pm and the loss of 13 overs. March, who have been on the road for the past five weeks, were 119-9 declared off 31 overs. David Hodson scored 31, Carl Chapman 18 and Josh Jackman 16.

Explaining why March declared, captain Chris Ringham said: “If we were all out then their target would have been divided between 48 overs instead of 31 due to the rain rule and they would have been chasing just 86.”

Foxton had two wickets deducted because of that rain rule but only lost two more, both falling to the captain inside his opening four overs. Foxton knocked off the 120 runs required in just 20.4 overs.

Rob Tombs is unavailable for next Saturday’s game versus Wisbech.

The 2nd Xl lost by six wickets at The Avenue to unbeaten CCA Senior League Division 1 leaders Kimbolton.

Nathan Oliver opened and made a top score of 32 in the 99-9 total. March slumped from 50-2 to 63-6 with only Jamie Stimpson’s 28 not out offering any resistance.

Callum Young made a welcome return from university, bagging himself 3-35, with Stuart Mills returning 1-22 in the 103-4 total.

The 3rd team’s home game at Doddington against Milton was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and the 4ths were without a league fixture!
