March CC 1st XI beat Long Sutton by 88 runs at The Avenue on Saturday, in their curtain-raiser to the season.

March posted 143-8: man of the match Ben Pyle (41) and Rob Tombs (19) put on 60, vice-skipper James Harradine (38), Nathan Oliver (18).

Sutton were shot out for 55: two wickets from debutant Ant Palmer, Tommy Howgego a three wicket spell for six runs and Toby Nulty 2-6. Before play, both sets of players observed a minute’s silence in memory of former club captain Ian Bradshaw.

The funeral of the former club chairman will take place at St John the Baptist Church, Somersham, on Monday at 10.30am.

Wisbech drew their pre-season two-day rain affected match with MCC. Set 161 in 25 overs, Wisbech closed on 136 for 8 (Josh Bowers 60). Wisbech begin in the Tucker League on Saturday, April 23, away to Foxton.
