A blistering undefeated 143 by Doddington’s Matt Bamford secured a 56-run victory over the defending champions March 2nd XI in the Ernie Wool Trophy final at Chatteris on Sunday.
Bamford’s century came off only 107 balls and included 19 4’s and six 6’s as Doddington reached a formidable 231-4 off their 40 overs. His last 43 came off only 19 balls.
Opener Dan Beavis 21 and experienced Pat O’Connor 25 not out were the only other significant contributions. Sam Mason took 3-49 and Matt Hubbard 1-23.
Young David Haslegrave hit 31 off 28 balls and despite 34 from skipper Stephen Wallis, 25 from Daniel Woods and 28 from Jake Beart March were always behind the clock and were bowled out for 175 in the 35th over. Pat O’Connor snatched four late wickets for 13 runs.
