The performance of the day in Cambs League 5D was Benwick Res drawing 2-2 with Chatteris Fen Tigers, who had only dropped points once previously all season.
Benwick, with only two wins under their belt, took the lead when a Greg Hoffman cross was bravely headed in by Ryan Smith. It woke Tigers up who led 2-1 with ten minutes to go. A Hoffman free-kick was glanced in by Joe Davis to equalise.
Assistant manager John Young said: “The team thoroughly deserved a point.
“The team have really come to grips with the 4-2-4 formation that we have adopted.”
Two sides struck ten goals: Coldham Utd, who recorded their best result of the season beating March Rangers Res 10-2; and Upwell, who ran out 10-2 winners against Walsoken.
Braces from Tim Housden, Kevin Smith, Lewis Greening, Sam Frankham, Ben Gallon and MoM Daniel Symonds wrapped up Coldham’s points which puts them level second in the table.
By half-time Upwell were 3-0 up though a postage stamp finish from Matty Thomas and Martin Chapman (2).
