Betts starts a March goal rush

March 1st 10, Bourne 1st 1

After a slow start March turned it on for the onlooking supporters. The first goal came from a Jody Betts bullet drag flick to the far bottom corner, soon followed excellent finishes from Wallis and Mitchell who each bagged a hat-trick.

Hazelgrave notched his first goal of the season with a top corner belter.

Skilful play from Welland forced a short corner. The Bourne defenders tried all they could to keep the resulting Batt strike out but it was struck so sweetly it deflected at least twice to find it’s way into the bottom corner.

A final flurry of greed from Betts saw him bag his second and finally find some form. All in all March were too hot to handle for the visitors and keep their promotion drive on course. Man of match was Fraser in his new wing back position.

With a strong wind at their backs, March soon found themselves 3-0 up thanks to a brace from Brian Fox and one from Ben Wright.

A dubious penalty flick allowed Rutland to pull one back but March’s relentless pressure saw Wright complete his hat-trick and both Charlie Boughton and Matt Lakey score to make it 7-1 at half-time.

Rutland started quickest in the second half pulling one back in the first five minutes, but from then on it was all March.

The Fox brothers then took it upon themselves to complete the rout, Brian (mom) scoring two more poachers goals and Toby hitting a screamer onto the far post and in.

This week March are at home to Alford and District looking to avenge a 7-1 defeat earlier in the season.
