Formidable teams from the four houses vied for the top spot in the annual trial of strength at Wisbech Grammar School on Wednesday.
All the students in the school turned out to watch mixed teams from the houses, Clarkson, Peckover, Holmes and Sparks, tussling for the heaving honours in the traditional tug of war.
Eventually Sparks, named after the first headmistress of Wisbech High School, Miss Beatrice Sparks, pulled away to claim victory.
Head of houses Tim Chapman said: “This was a spectacular way to start the school day and stirring stuff.”
Members of Peckover house are pictured refusing to go down without a fight.
