AN eight-year-old Wisbech schoolgirl has experienced success in her first season competing in horse driving trials.

Cerys Gilbert came top in the Young Junior class at the Indoor National Horse Driving Trials Championships, held recently in Bedfordshire.

The talented youngster represented Norfolk area and competed with her grandparent’s pony Pepper, who she has been riding since she was four.

During the three-day competition, Cerys drove Pepper in dressage, timed cones accuracy course and around timed gated obstacles at speed.

Mum Cathy Gilbert and grandad Brian Nicholls both backstep and groom for her during competitions.

Cerys became interested in driving trials while watching her mum and grandad drive competitively. She is now a member of British Young Drivers and attends training courses with other young drivers.

She also recently attended a film shoot with Mike Bushell from BBC Extreme Sports as the youngest member of the British Young Drivers to help promote the sport.
