Fenland Running Club teamed up with March Athletic Club on their usual club-night Thursday evening to hold a Charity Run in aid of Diabetes UK.

It was a very humid evening which resulted in more than a few runners opting to do just one of the two 5K laps starting and finishing at the Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey Club pavilion. Everyone enjoyed the social gathering of runners from both clubs and the Diabetes UK representative Arthur Smart was presented with a cheque for £400 by FRC club chairman Andre Pittock.

Fenland RC members went to the Heckington Show and ran the 10-mile road race on another hot and sweltering day.

The ladies outnumbered the men on this occasion with a six to five ratio and with superb running from Maire Irlam, Ann Trett and Katie Ward should have been won the Ladies Team prize which appears to have been
wrongly awarded to Sleaford Striders.

Irlam did however achieve her long time ambition to break the 70 minute barrier with a big PB, finishing as fourth lady overall.

Full results: Martin Jennings 36th 68.26; Maire Irlam 41st 69.54; Ann Trett 53rd 73.17; Richard Betts 57th 74.00; Stuart Follen 70th 75.59; Katie Ward 88th 78.51; Leanne Rickett 103rd 81.56; John Shaw 106th 82.29; Jay Gilbert 128th 86.56; Michelle Gilbert 129th 86.56.
