Wisbech RUFC U13 33, St Ives U13 15
In a rearranged fixture due to an iced pitch a couple of weeks ago, Wisbech entertained St Ives in the Cambs Cup at Harecroft Road on Sunday.
The visitors were short of players and a 13 a side game was agreed to be played.
The match was keenly contested, and the deadlock wasn’t broken until a superb solo run from centre, Henry Meekins, gave the home team the lead on 20 minutes. The conversion was well taken by Thomas Barlow , one of four successful kicks for him on the day.
The home lead was increased after prop Dylan Francourt crashed through the St Ives’ defence on 23 minutes.
The visitors responded in the dying seconds with an unconverted try to give Wisbech a 12–5 half-time lead.
The home defence didn’t seem to have recovered from their half-time break and St Ives reduced the home lead to just two points as they scored an early second period try.
Wisbech, however, recovered well and three quick tries put the match behind doubt, successful scorers were Ari Baghdouyan (33 minutes) and a brace for Charlie Coles (35, 39), all converted by Barlow. St Ives scored a further unconverted try in stoppage time.
A thoroughly well deserved result for the Wisbech team.
There were any number of players in the frame for man of the match, but it was awarded to Kelso Laurence.
He put in another solid workmanlike performance, tackling well and supporting his team mates with great determination.
