Cambridge City 2s 1,

Wisbech Town Ladies 2

After a promising pre-season Wisbech kicked off their division 1N campaign by beating tough opposition.

A sloppy defensive error led to Wisbech conceding a cheap goal just a few minutes before half time, despite dominating the game.

After a period of sustained pressure in the second half, their efforts finally paid off when Sophie Culshaw neatly deflected a well-executed short corner driven in from the top of the D by Laura Overland.

Culshaw grabbed her second goal of the game after a perfectly timed pass from Jane Peggs.

Wisbech defended well to see the game out. They hope to take this positive start into their first home game of the season next weekend against Bury St Edmunds, 1pm at Harecroft Road.

Wisbech Town 3,

City of Peterborough 5

The first league game of the 2014/15 Premier A campaign saw Wisbech host local rivals Peterborough.

The home side took the lead, when Ed Batt and Daniel Martell set up Ash Welland, whose first shot was saved.

Peterborough made it 4-1 just before half-time. Will Denny finished off a fine counter attack and Martell made it 4-3.

Wisbech were reduced to 10 men when keeper Tom Peggs overreacted to a penalty flick awarded to the visitors and they converted past Jonathan Shippey, who went in goal. Wisbech take a lot of positives into next weekend’s game against Dereham.
