Duo’s regional finals spot

Wisbech Swimming Club took their six qualifying swimmers to the 2012 East Regional Age Group Championships held on June 2, 3, 9 and 10 at the UEA in Norwich.

All the best swimmers from the East Region (which covers Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Beds, Herts and Essex) were competing in their age groups from 10 to 14 years, with all swims taking part in the Olympic Size 50 metre pool.

Results, 13 year girls: Hannah Brown – 100 B/k 17th, 200 B/k 20th. Abigail Foley – 100 F/c 25th.

12 year girls: Phoebe Gallagher – 200 F/c 25th, 400 F/c 17th, 100 Brst 16th, 200 Brst 9th. Grace Cherry – 100 Brst 17th, 200 Brst 17th, 200 B/k 21st.

12 year boys: Oliver Newton – 100 B/k 5th, 100 F/c 4th, 200 F/c 12th, 400 F/c 9th. Finals – 100 F/c 5th, 100 B/k 5th.

10 year boys: Jack Lane – 100 B/k 16th, 200 B/k 13th, 100 F/c 5th, 200 F/c 8th, 400 F/c 11th, 200 IM 14th, 400 IM 11th. Finals – 100 F/c 7th, 200 F/c 7th.

Overall age group (based on swims in all categories): Abigail Foley 51st, Hannah Brown 42nd, Phoebe Gallagher 26th, Grace Cherry 37th, Oliver Newton 18th, Jack Lane 12th.

Head coach, Greg Marsters said: “Overall I am very pleased with the performances from our swimmers. Only one of these athletes had competed at this level before, so it proves just how far we have come as a club in the last 12 months.

“It is difficult with limited water time, training in a 25 metre pool, to compete in a major championships in a 50 metre pool.

“The difference it makes to the swimmers cannot be underestimated.

He added: “I would like to praise the swimmers for their hard work and dedication and would like to thank my coaching team and the parents for the support.”
