Two local riders performed superbly at the Horse Of The Year Show (HOYS).

Hayley Shippey (pictured) from Upwell recently rode her horse, General George, to victory in the cob final in the South Essex Insurance Brokers’ (SEIB) Search For A Star Championship at the HOYS.

Freya Cade (12) from Parson Drove and her 128cm show pony Sandbank Earlybird (Kevin) competed at the NEC. Earning the second highest ride mark of the whole class, Freya was delighted to finish in sixth place.

General George is an 8-year-old Irish Draft x Thoroughbred who is thought to have been bred in Ireland.

General George also finished in a very creditable ninth place in the Open Lightweight Cob class.

Kevin cracked a bone in his hoof and for a while it looked doubtful that he would ever be ridden again.
