The 2014 Stock Car Racing season kicks off in style at the Norfolk Arena, King’s Lynn, on Saturday night (6pm).
The mighty 2-Litre Saloon Stock Cars will be competing for the Clive Grief Memorial Trophy. Wisbech duo Jacob Downey, who was a race winner at the track last year, and Daniel Hill will both be in action, the latter making his debut. Jake Swann of March also competes.
Former European champion Dean Moat leads the Wisbech challenge in the smaller 1300cc Stock Cars, also contesting their Clive Grief Memorial Trophy, and will be joined by younger brother Shane and father John, an experienced racer with multiple titles to his name. Moat Senior won this event three years ago.
Richard Hampshire is another regular winner, while Ady Wales is always on the pace. Sparrow brothers Simon and Scott also compete, plus two recent converts from banger racing, Dave Norris and Kevin McClagish.
Europe’s largest stock car category, BriSCA Formula Two, completes the bill in the category’s first World Championship qualifying round. English champion Dave Polley (Manea), young gun Ollie Skeels (Wisbech), plus Anthony Winters and Chris Hands Wisbech) are among more than 80 drivers expected.
