RICHARD EVE was once again the quickest in the Wisbech Tuesday evening 10 with 21.56, closely followed by David Jakeman in 22.04.
But the battle for third was a match between national champion speed skaters, Mike MacInerney and James Ashby. Both took part in the Le Mans 24 hour skating race in France and only arrived back late the night before.
MacInerney’s five-man team came second in their class and trounced Ashby’s eight-man squad from Nottingham University. Determined to prove a point they ignored tired legs and Ashby was able to turn the tables with third in 22.21, and MacInerney had to settle for fourth with 22.42.
