A fabulous Fenland Running Club weekend was had across the country.
Some 19 runners were at the Coniston 14 in the Lake District on Saturday. With ideal conditions around the challenging hills of the 13.8 mile course, five runners achieved PBs, with three of these taking age category prizes amongst the 1,119 finishers.
Martin Jennings stormed home with a PB of 1.28.26, finishing 27th overall and 3rd in his MV40 age category, Maire Irlam PB’d in 1.46.58 taking 1st LV45 in her last race in this category and Ian Milburn was 1st MV70 in an impressive time of 1.48.44.
Larissa Follen and Nicky Jennings had massive PBs knocking 19 and 18 minutes respectively off their times from last year. Stuart Follen also PB’d, just breaking the sub 1.40 barrier by 29 seconds with a time of 1.39.31.

At Wymondham the four runners were testing their preparations for the London Virgin Marathon in a 20-mile race hosted by Wymondham AC with 392 finishers. All runners achieved their marathon game plan targets and Gary Bligh was first home in 18th place in a time of 2.11.50, Mel Murdoch second in 2.25.35 (5th Lady, 1st in Senior Lady category), followed by Stewart Harrison 126th in 2.39.55 and Justin Showell 162nd in 2.47.28.
At the 6.5K Cross Country Grand Prix at Shouldham Warren, Colin Simpson and Sue George were also amongst the prizes as Colin was 1st MV60 on the day in a time of 27.28 and took the series 1st place MV60 trophy whilst Sue’s time was 36.24 and she took the trophy for series third place.
With no company from fellow Fenlanders Paulina Zub completed the Lincoln 10K in perfect running conditions in a time of 49:5, in 1,180th out of 4,262 finishers.
Earlier in March, Sarah Rippon was 1st in her age group in 3.26.42 at the Battlefield Sprint Duathlon.
