THE girls’ rugby side at Wisbech Grammar School has won its first piece of silverware of the season after storming to victory in the under 18 plate final at the Cambridge Sevens Tournament.

The team, which had previously reached the finals of two other national tournaments, the Berkhamsted and Reigate Sevens, played five matches at the Cambridge Sevens, which attracted an entry of eight teams.

In the semi-final the Wisbech side notched up a comprehensive 37-0 victory against St Joseph’s College, a side which the girls had earlier defeated at Berkhamsted.

There were three tries from the Wisbech girls in a closely contested final against Thomas Becket Catholic School and the team members ran out 15-0 winners to take the plate and individual medals.
