juniors from Wisbech Town HC, boosted by March Town HC players, were in action at Perse School in Cambridge, at the County Round of the Boys and Girls U10/U12s National In2Hockey Competition.

Sponsored by Wisbech Round Table, the Boys U10s came back from an early defeat against Peterborough B to beat St Ives and Saffron Walden and hold eventual winners Cambridge City A to a 0-0 draw to finish a very close third place in their pool.

The Boys U12s performed similarly against Peterborough and Cambridge but beat St Ives 6-0 with goals from Ben Darrington, Mark Saunders and Mark Whittome, to also finish in third.

The Girls U12s finished in a creditable third position against strong opposition from Cambridge City B, Cambridge City D and Saffron Walden.

The Girls U10s had some great results against Cambridge City B (1-0 win) and Saffron Walden (0-0), giving their performance of the day by coming back from 0-3 down to 2-3 eventual pool winners Cambridge City A with two vital goals from captain Isabella Pope.

Ending up in second place on goals scored, the U10s edged out Cambridge City B and now go on to the Regional Round at the water-based Astroturf facility at Harleston, Norfolk, on Saturday.

Thanks to Anna Whittome and Rachel Howsam from March and Wisbech’s Sam Dunn, Isaac Chaplain-Barton, Tom Drew and Oliver Osborn for helping throughout the 12 games.
