At the recent Norfolk Open Taekwon-do championships in Downham Market, the Wisbech team definitely made the grade with three gold medals and two silvers between them.

Dawn Murat tended to an injury sustained by the 14-year-old Erin before they both went on to compete for their medal hauls.

Murat entered the Norfolk Open as the Norfolk champion in Women’s power breaking and defended her title against stiff opposition in an eight break stand-off using a range of breaks with hand and foot, including a reverse turning kick of such power, from Dawn, that it made the rafters rattle.

She won the gold again, to a delighted audience.

Erin was equally, if not even more brilliant, with silver in the patterns competition, silver in the sparring, and an amazing gold medal in the junior high kick, after five rounds.

Another of Carter’s Wisbech students, who brought home the gold from Norfolk, was John Noble who won the gold medal for his exemplary patterns, in the adult male competition.

Both of the Wisbech competitors train exclusively with Anthony Carter who has been teaching Taekwon-do for 28 years, and teaches at the Hudson Leisure Centre, Wisbech, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6pm and 7pm.
