Young athletes from Wisbech Grammar School dominated the Isle of Ely District Athletic Championships.
The contest at Lynnsport attracted teams composed of students in years seven to ten from Cromwell Community College, Neale-Wade Academy, the Thomas Clarkson Academy, Witchford Village College, Ely College and King’s Ely.
The Grammar School competitors took the overall championship, with King’s Ely in second place and Ely College third. The Wisbech team was first in the year eight girls and year ten boys sections, whilst being placed second in five other groups and third in one.
Individual first places in the age groups were as follows: year ten boys – Oliver Short (discus and shot put), Ryan Hutler (100 metres and 200 metres), Dan Crossley (javelin); year ten girls – Rachel Evans (shot put); year nine boys – Henry Oldershaw-Ellis (discus), Benjamin York (400 metres); year nine girls – Mollie Allen (100 metres, 800 metres and long jump); Amber Jones (shot put); Megan Fey (discus); year eight boys – Arran Shipley (triple jump); year eight girls – Hannah Greenhalgh (hurdles, 800 metres and long jump), Georgia White (1500 metres), EdenCooper (100 metres), Georgia Ellis (shot put); year seven boys – Frazer Brown (triple jump).
Head of boys’ sport Phillip Webb said: “This was an excellent achievement by all our athletes, who competed very well on the day.”
