Harry stars with haul of 21 tries

Harry Fowler got his season off to a flying start scoring no fewer than 21 tries as Wisbech Rugby Club Under 7s took part in the Cambridgeshire Developmental Festival at Ely Tigers on Sunday.

Wisbech fielded two teams with young players enjoying their first taste of competitive rugby. Against teams drawn from all over the county Wisbech Warriors won all five games, whilst Wisbech Wolves won two and lost three. Notable performances from Harry Davison, Lewis Wing and Charlie Bradshaw.

Wisbech Under 10s got their season off to a great start on Sunday winning three of their four matches and playing some fantastic rugby along the way.

Wisbech travelled with a strong squad and were able to field a number of players in a Barbarians team, notable performances from Angus Flint, Joseph Hoyles, Fabian Simpson and Alex Jackson in particular.

Wisbech 5 Cambridge 0. Scorer: Harry Holmes.

Wisbech 30 Saffron Waldon 0. Scorers: Jack Robb (2), Samways (2), Conor Melton, Wilcox.

Wendens Ambo 20 Wisbech 5. Scorer: Hare.

Wisbech U12s travelled to Shelford Rugby Club and came away undefeated against the best teams in the county.

Wisbech had 0-0 draws against a well drilled Shelford side and an evenly matched Cambridge side.

Wisbech beat a fast moving Ely side 15-10 with one try apiece for new players Will and Isaac Haddon. A dive for the line from Luke Green gave Wisbech victory.

In the final game against St Ives the score remained 0-0.

Player of the week: scrum half James Shelly, a solid performance throughout all four matches.
