Cronkbourne Bacchanalians 0 Wisbech Ladies Over 35’s 1
Wisbech travelled to the Isle of Man for their quarter-final on Sunday and were rewarded with a place in the National Shield last four.
Midway through the first half Laura Overland ran through the defence and cut the ball back for Erika Harvey to score the decisive goal.
Wisbech piled on the pressure with Emma Baker and Lyn Tancred creating numerous chances.
The second half was a little more even with Cronkbourne searching for the equaliser which did result in a penalty flick, but was put wide. Wisbech managed to maintain possession when needed and were strong in defence with Lorraine Wallis making a crucial near post save in the last few minutes.
In the last four Wisbech will host Hertford on Sunday, March 12. A special thank you to Gary Ingram for driving the ladies and to Joanne Gomm for her managerial skills on the sideline.
St Albans 3 Wisbech Ladies 1sts 2
The home side pressed high from the off and went ahead within minutes.
After half-time St Albans could not deal with the blistering pace of the forwards and a Wisbech penalty corner hit a foot on the line. Lisa Williamson stepped up and calmly slotted home the resultant penalty flick.
Charlie Paine was rewarded with her second goal in as many weeks, neatly finishing on her reverse.
Despite some brave defending and some excellent saves from keeper Rosie Stevenson, St Albans scored twice in quick succession.
The ladies host Norwich Dragons next weekend, 1.45 push back.
