Hat-trick of Chatteris victories simple for Simpson

Chatteris Kingfishers had a busy weekend with a small junior squad swimming in the fourth round of the Junior Fenland League in Newmarket on Saturday and a mixed group competing in the Cambridge Open Meet on Sunday.

A very small squad of only 13 swimmers competed in Newmarket, finishing in fourth place with 120 points, ahead of Mildenhall with 109, just behind St Neots with 122 and Ely with 130, with winners Boston amassing 174 points.

The young swimmers showed great team spirit, swimming lots of races and in higher age groups, with Reece Simpson (10/U 50m breaststroke, front crawl and butterfly), Thomas Hanley (12/U 50m butterfly), Chloe Cook (13/U 50m breaststroke), Maisie Harper (12/U 50m butterfly) and Kiera Simpson (12/U 50m breaststroke) winning their races.

Second places were achieved by Thomas Hanley (13/u 50m butterfly), Chloe Cook (13/U 50m backstroke), Reece Simpson (11/U 50m front crawl), sister Kiera Simpson (12/U 50m backstroke and 13/U 100m I.M.), Megan Denman (9yrs 25m butterfly and 50m backstroke) and Harry Rayner (10/U 50m backstroke).

Laudable 3rd spots were won by Mia Tandon (9yrs 50m front crawl), Harry Rayner (11/U 50m backstroke and 12/U 50m front crawl), Olivia Clark (11/U 50m front crawl and backstroke), Thea Hanley (10/U 50m backstroke), Chloe Cook (13/U 50m butterfly), April Doherty (9 yrs 50m breaststroke) and Layla White (10 yrs 50m butterfly). Making his debut was Eddie Boxall.

On Sunday 15 swam, coming away with numerous medals, although not all results are known yet. Finley Harper won the 14/U 50m and 200m front crawl, got silver in 100m front crawl and bronze in 200m IM. Chloe Cook won the 12/U 100m breaststroke, 200m I.M. and 100m butterfly and swam to bronze in the 50m breaststroke. Freddie Allen won silver in the 10 yrs 200m I.M. and 50m breaststroke and bronze in 50m backstroke (all pb’s). Mark Thompson won silver in Open 200m front crawl and Megan Donovan in 9 yrs 50m butterfly. Bronze medals were won by Kiara Kovacs in 12 yrs 200m front crawl and 100m backstroke, Thomas Hanley in 12 yrs 100m front crawl and 50m butterfly, Annabel White in 10 yrs 200m I.M. and Reece Simpson in 10 yrs 50m butterfly. Swimming pb’s in most or all of their races were Thea Hanley (10), Layla White (9), Maisie Harper (12), Kiara Kovacs (12), Liam Hill (14) and Mia Tandon (9).
