A bank holiday beach party for families at Huntingdon Racecourse has been shortlisted for a national award.

Putting on beach volleyball, a surf simulator, a coconut shy and giving garlands and sunglasses to children as well as a host of other fun activities – in addition to a full programme of jump racing at the August fixture – boosted the crowd figure by a third over the corresponding day in 2012.

A treasure hunt with both children’s and adult prices including a helicopter ride and stays at Whittlebury Hall spa added to the sense of family fun.

The initiative is now on the finalist list of the ‘Best Campaign’ category of the third annual Racecourse Association Showcase & Awards 2013 to be held next month.

Nadia Gollings, General Manager, of Huntingdon Racecourse, said: “I am delighted that the efforts of all the racecourse team have been recognised.”

Huntingdon Racecourse is very busy in coming weeks as there are five more meetings in 2013. They include the inaugural Boongate Kia Peterborough Winter Ladies’ Day on Saturday, November 23, Betfred Peterborough Chase Day on Thursday, December 12 and Stan James Boxing Day on Thursday, December 26.

The best dressed lady on Winter Ladies’ Day will win a Kia Rio car for a year, courtesy of the day’s sponsor – Boongate Kia of Peterborough. The fixture also features the first running of the Boongate Kia Cambridgeshire National which, at three and three-quarter miles, is the longest race run at the track.

Tickets booked in advance for racing days at Huntingdon Racecourse are discounted by ten per cent at www.huntingdon-racecourse.co.uk or on the ticket hotline on 0844 579 3007.
