John rides again after 36 years

The Wisbech Wheelers riders were on fire in the Tuesday series with a string of cycling personal bests on a warm evening.

Paul Ashby was just four seconds ahead of Mat Webster, followed by David Jakeman. Ken Roesner dominates in the vets, almost three minutes clear of the nearest opposition. John Brown (72) after a 36 year lay off is on the comeback trail and his 25.35 proves it’s never too late.

In the ladies vet Lou Campion took victory by four seconds with a 27.14 pb from fellow vet, Elaine Roesner (27.18).

In the Spalding Dualthlon James McClure took 2nd, brother Mat was 4th, 16-year-old Jonny 9th, their dad, Doug 12th and Wisbech Junior Sam Parrin 20th.

There was little chance of a pb on Sunday in the Wisbech Open ‘25’ with strong winds on the A47. The team prize went to the Wheelers, who provided fastest lady, Roesner in 1.17.34.
