Saturday saw the last round of the Mini-meet series in Peterborough for 9-12 year olds.

Some 16 young Chatteris Kingfishers swimmers took part, with the girls swimming 50m fly, 50m back and 200m front crawl and the boys swimming 50m free, 50m breast and 200m I.M. or 100m i.m. (9-year old).

At the end of the evening the top six swimmers in each age group received trophies for the overall result after 4 rounds and coach Andrew Jakeman was more than pleased that his swimmers swam 31 personal best times and that six of them finished in the top six positions.

They were – 9-year old boys: Harry Rayner 4th place, 10 year old girls: Chloe Cook in 6th place, 11-year old boys: Thomas Hanley in 2nd place and Riley Astley in 3rd place, 11-year old girls: Hallie White in 5th place, 12-year old girls: Megan Dawson in 4th place.

The other swimmers taking part and swimming p.b.’s on the night were: Anastassja Herdien (9), Hayden Wareing (9), Amy Cooper and Melissa Ablett (10), Maisie Harper, Kiara Kovacs, Naomi Lambert di Marco, Molly Noble and Kiera Simpson (all 11) and Oliver Ayres (10).

Caring Kingfishers swimmer Vicky Allen meanwhile took part in the Swimathon to raise money for the Marie Curie cancer charity and swam 2.5 kilometres in less than 45 minutes.

A group of mothers are so impressed with their children’s swimming efforts that they have decided to help the club raise money to buy vital equipment for in the pool by walking 26 miles from Cambridge to Chatteris on May 16 and are hoping that people will be willing to sponsor them.

Sponsor forms are available to be filled in at the Empress pool in Chatteris on training nights (Monday to Thursday from 6.30) or the club can be contacted via the Facebook page.
