East Men’s League 2N

March Town 7, Sudbury 4

After not having a game the previous weekend, third place March took another step towards promotion.

A good team move was stopped on the goal line by a Sudbury defender’s foot. Jody Betts scored the resulting penalty flick.

Sudbury made it 1-1 but Ashley Welland finished into the bottom corner and James Mansfield made it 3-1 after good work from Betts.

The second half started with Sudbury conceding a penalty flick after a good run from David Haslegrave. Betts sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Sudbury made it 4-2 soon after but David Hodson got his first goal since his return to March, captain for the day Haslegrave netted, while Welland provided another assist to square to Hodson who swept it in.

Goalkeeper Matt Lynn produced a save from a penalty flick.

MoM: David Hodson.

March travel to North Norfolk next weekend.

East Men’s League 5NW

Long Sutton 3rds 1, March Town 2nd 2

Against a youthful Sutton, March scored in each half (including Jordan Hilliard’s first goal this season) while some fantastic saves from goalkeeper Gary Sandford kept them in the game.

MoM: Gary Sandford. Goals: Jordan Hilliard, Charlie Boughton.

Next weekend March Town 2nds play at home against Horncastle 2nds.

East Women’s League 3NW(S)

March Town 2, City of Peterborough 3 0

Both teams were of an equal standard, so the ball was constantly up and down the pitch.

In the last minute of the first half a surge up the right wing by joint player of the match, Rachel Mottram, resulted in a cross to the other player of the match, Bekki White, who beat the keeper.

As one minute remained, Rachel Mottram crossed the ball across the goal, where Hana Howsam tapped it into the left corner of the net.
