Josh Tanner (10) debuted in his first skills bout and did very well against Noar Ronson from Sudbury ABC in a three one-minute rounds contest.

Tarley Smith had his first competitive match against Southend’s Tyler Fairburn. Tarley secured a unanimous decision. His older brother Acer lost a close bout on a split decision.

Mark Smith, 11, won his second boxing match and was awarded ‘boxer of the night’ after incredible footwork and movement. Robert Tanner, after losing a few bouts by split decisions, secured a unanimous decision win against Kai Jones from Nottinghamshire.

Regan Lazenby, junior national championships semi-finalist, lost the 4x2 minutes contest.

Joe Steed outboxed Darren Cook from Triumph. Joe, who was national novice junior champion last season, showed improvement. Shaun Simpson dominated in his second bout in 80kg with some powerful punches.

Charlie Stevens, who boxed in the Eastern Area final, also won by unanimous decision and became area champion. He absolutely dominated his opponent for two rounds.

Stevens progressed to the national quarter-finals in Liverpool against London area champion Andrew Fleming from Astley VIP. The second round was the beginning of Charlie’s domination and in the third round his opponent was given a standing count.

Charlie is now boxing in the final tournament in Liverpool where top eight English senior boxers will compete for the national title.
