Chatteris Kingfishers sent ten swimmers to the British Masters Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, and returned with fantastic results.
All ten swimmers came away with medals which also included three British records, nine East Region records and a county record. Stephen Mavin had a great meet in the 35-39 age group coming away with nine gold (including 200 butterfly, 100 free, 100 back,), including a British record in both the 50 & 100m Fly plus a county record in the 100m medley, silver (50 back) and two bronze medals (50 breast and 120+ free relay team).
He was also part of the 160+ medley relay team that smashed the long standing British record, together with Dan Wardley-Smith, Andrew Fresher and Martyn Fresher.
Other fantastic performances were from the Kingfishers coach Jo Pearce in the 35-39 age group, who won two gold (50m front crawl), silver (50m butterfly) and two bronze, including a nail biting finish in the 120+ mixed medley relay to retain their own title. Marie Doherty (35-39) broke the old Regional 1500m freestyle record by over 2 minutes to record a lifetime best time, finishing overall 4th. Garry Mavin (40-44), gold and two bronze (100 butterfly, 100 I.M.) including two Regional records. Martyn Fresher and Andrew Fresher (45-49) gained two gold relay medals, with both achieving top six places, in 200, 100 and 50m breaststroke and 100 I.M. respectively. Dan Wardley-Smith (30-34), two gold and silver (100m back). Laura Wardley-Smith (25-29), gold as part of the mixed medley relay team. Gary Smith (25-29), silver (200m back) and three bronze (50 and 100m back, front crawl relay). Mark Thompson (18-24) silver in the 800m freestyle and a pb, also a lifetime best in his 100m freestyle.
