Stewart McCurry of Walsoken was too hot for the competition when he became the first fancier in Wisbech to win a national event after winning many first prizes in both the Wisbech & District Flying Club and the Fen Federation.
The icing was put on the cake in the Midland National Flying Club’s event from Portland. His winning bird (Tom’s Girl) of the Busschaert x Soontjen bloodlines led the field of 4,247 birds from all parts of the UK at a speed of 57mph over 185 miles to the Bucksholt Racing lofts in Walsoken.
Tom’s Girl was named after Stewart’s late father and won prize money of over £1,200. Two other entries took 3rd and 4th Open.
