Wisbech Town 2

(Wisbech win 8-7 on

penalty strokes)

Wisbech’s mixed side defeated East Anglian rivals Norwich City in the second round of the national trophy competition.

They started strongly but the home side took the lead with a sharp, deflected finish past keeper James Sheppard.

Wisbech then equalised through Ed Batt, when his quick thinking from a five-yard hit saw him evade three tackles before slipping the ball through the keeper’s legs.

Wisbech took the lead when Tom Peggs finished cooly from close range. Moments before half-time, Norwich pulled level.

No further goals were scored in the second half so the game was decided by penalty strokes. Jonathan Shippey, Ash Welland, Lisa Williamson and Ed Batt all scored to take Wisbech through to the next round.

Norwich Dragons 5,

Wisbech knew this game would be tough and relentless.

Wisbech had levelled it with Claire Apted sinking a rebound shot at a short corner but the Dragons struck twice quickly before half-time and netted three more.
