Chatteris Kingfishers SC is going from strength to strength, not least through the amazing support the children get from their parents, ferrying the children to training and competitions.
A small group of mums took their support even further and decided to walk a marathon distance, from Cambridge to St Ives along the guided busway, to Somersham and back to the Empress pool in Chatteris, to raise money for much-needed new lane ropes.
They set off from the pool by car at 6am to go to Cambridge, where they started walking at about 6.50am, supported by Gary Thomas and chairman Paul Hanley on the bike and David Dawson in the van. They arrived back at the pool, blisters and all, at 5pm. They’re hoping that between them they will have raised about £2,000.
Their children will be competing again on Sunday, at the Fenland Open Meet in Whittlesey, jointly organised by March Marlins and Kingfishers SC. Any child 7 or over, who can already swim 50m or more, can come along for a trial on Mondays from 6-6.45pm (not on Bank Holiday Mondays) at the Empress pool in Park Street.
