Long Sutton Summer Hockey League

Sponsored by Abbeygate Rest Homes

Play-off for 7th/8th

Wisbech 1, Spalding 4

The first half of a well contested affair ended with Spalding leading 3-0 with Lisa Williamson tirelessly running for Wisbech.

Wisbech started the second half stronger and pulled a goal back after some fine work from their ladies.

5th/6th play-off

Spalding 2nd 1, Petes Presidential Picks 2

The Pressies defied the odds again and won.

Spalding started the game better and but for excellent defending from keeper Lorraine Wallis and the Pressies Man of The League, they would have taken the lead. Sam Carr, Helen Worth and Adam Taylor worked tirelessly again, ably supported by Laura Temple, Hannah Greenacre and Rhian Goodge.

After good work by Bailey, Adam Wiles finished past the Spalding keeper. The second half started closer and the Pressies had other chances to score, with young Carr and Kierman going close before Canham made it 2-0 with a deft chip.

3rd Place play-off

Wisbech 2nd 1, The Sabres 1 (Wisbech win on penalty flicks 3-1)

Wisbech won the play-off on flicks as they were a little to clinical for the Sabres.

Sabres took the lead through Ladies top scorer in the tournament Becky Kierman. Wisbech battled back and equalised before half time.

Final

The Nerds 1, The Ninjas 5

The Ninjas won the final game of the first Summer League against fellow Long Sutton team the Nerds to be crowned winners.

Ninjas controlled the game from the start, with Danny Sisson, Jimmy Harrison, Leanne Woodhead and Tom Baguley putting in more excellent performances. The Nerds battled well, Tania White once again shone as did Jamie
Featherstone and captain Nick Ellis.

Ninjas goals came from top scorer of the tournament Sisson 2, Alex Canham and Josh Fyson 2, before Tania White reduced the arrears with a well taken flick. Thanks to Spalding and Wisbech for entering teams, and to the umpire pool for helping out every week.
