March AC had nine members face the Virgin London Marathon 26.2-mile course on Sunday.

Bearing in mind it was a very warm sunny day, three members were in the top 10 per cent of finishers, Jason Perrin (who was first home for the club) with a pb time of 3.05.30 and came 1,838th, Mick Stacey 2,127 with 3.08.35 and Debra Wait 2,793rd, 26th in her age category, 3.13.58.

Personal bests were had by Karen Patterson 3.26.03 giving her 4,342nd position overall along with Mark Salmons 3 hours 32 seconds, 5,545th.

Dave Tuffnail and Lisa Donkin completed their first marathons with impressive times of 4.14.16 and 4.43.45 respectively. Frances Cooke, who tends to run a marathon every week, finished in 4.19.08 followed by Simon Render 4.25.11.

With two runners unfortunately having to defer their places due to recent injuries, the Fenland Running Club contingent was somewhat reduced. First home for Fenland was Dan Wate who was 4,882nd in 3:29-12 (PB) which was a great achievement as he had been training hard to get under three and a half hours.

Katie Ward ran well, but found the heat of the day difficult, and with a mile to go, she was in good spirits to finish 11,249th in just under four hours, with a time of 3:58-08. Laura Arnold was 24,301st with a steady pace in 4:53-48.
