Joe Perry from Chatteris sensationally leads defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan following the first session of their second-round match at the World Snooker Championship.
Perry was 5-3 up last night (Thursday) against a man aiming to become world champion for the third successive year in Sheffield. The first player to reach 13 frames reaches the quarter-finals.
O’Sullivan, a five-times title winner, was never ahead in the opening stages in the best-of-25 match. Perry won the first frame of the evening and at one point led 4-1.
The ‘Rocket’, looking for his sixth world crown, replied with a break of 116 and then reigning champion O’Sullivan pegged it back to 4-3 with a break of 75.
However Perry finished the day with a 99 break.
Perry will resume his match this afternoon (Friday) at 2pm.
