The riders in the Wisbech Cycling Club evening series experienced the best racing of the season so far.
Warm, damp and calm, the fast conditions produced a string of pb’s and season’s bests too numerous to list. Eight riders managed the 25mph plus average that time trialists aspire to, with top veteran, Paul Ashby a shade under the magic 30 mph of elite riders with 20.37.
The next three riders were inside 23 minutes, the quickest being skater Mike MacInerney followed by David Jakeman and Stuart Emmett on 22.08, 22.42 and 22.57 respectively.
Mike and fellow national champion James Ashby can be seen at this time of year skimming along on Fenland roads on roller blades behind fast moving groups of cyclists in preparation for marathons, often clocking up over 50 miles on a Sunday morning.
On Saturday lady vet Denese Hallahan continued with her packed racing programme with 28.01 in the Coventry CC open 10 mile TT.
